I think you are missing the point.
Or, possibly I am missing the point.
I *thought* the point was not 'are we professionals' as in do we carry
ourselves in a professional manner. But, on a government form, are we
granted a distinction of reproducible quality and education that would
allow us to call ourselves members of a Profession (this being the one
where you can sign passports).
Certainly, I am saddened that one's self-esteem would be wrapped up in
whether or not one can give oneself the formal, government-approved,
passport-signing status of being a 'member of a Profession'.
Congratulations to the AMA. If the STC wants to follow the same path, I
think there is value in it. But as it stands today, well, I wouldn't
lose any sleep over it.
