This may be true in some situations, but in the
majority of circumstances it is not. The on-line
Contactor's Handbook does a very rigorous job of
comparing, money-wise, contractor vs employee.

The author says that, while many (I would say most)
contractors think they make more money than regular
employees, in reality, when you look at everything -
paid vacation, loss of income between assignments,
paid holidays, etc., etc., the majority of contractors
who think they make more money actually make a lot
less than regular employees.

The author states, in summary: Unless one is a truely
independent consultant (i.e., no agency gets you the
job - you are 1099), it is next to impossible to get
anywhere near the true compensation of a regular
employee.
