face a "management test" when they interview for their next job! :-)
Seriously though - I think administering a writing test would take a
lot of time for very little useful return. I doubt a working tech
manager would stay up late to grade writing tests - they're too busy so
they'd just go with their gut. Sounds like an HR initiative to me.
Besides, anything I whip up while-you-wait isn't likely to be
worthwhile anyway - I wouldn't rely on it to get myself hired.
