I'm curious. How many people do you think could fulfill these job requirements? This is a posting for a job as a scientific/medical editor.

"Please do not send your resume if you do not meet the minimum requirements.
Minimum requirements:

• Ph.D. in a scientific discipline

• B.A. in English or extensive experience in editing scientific journal manuscripts"

I understand the desire for the scientific background, certainly. But how many PhD holders in the scientific disciplines start out with a BA in liberal arts? Darn few. It makes me wonder if this employer is needlessly restrictive or simply naive.

My SO has an MD and worked as the editor of a medical journal. I never asked what her undergraduate major was, but she meets the alternative qualification. If she were looking for work (she's not), I think she'd be considered qualified for that job. How many people would qualify? I don't know. If you think you're qualified, even though you may lack the specific degrees requested, go ahead and apply. Worst that can happen they'll say No.
