What Yourdon is talking about is that systems are what
is referred to as asynchronous: Many things
potentially happening a the same time and many
possible branchings. Text is, however, synchronous:
linear, one thing after another.
Using a synchronous (i.e., one dimensional) tool to
try and describe an asynchronous (i.e.
multidimensional) entity causes problems. The bigger
the system, the bigger the problems.
