Actually, I'd have to agree with the others in that experience in particular areas was the big thing. It was my ability to create a single-source XML system, that I can do Unix system administration guides, and that I've also been a training course developer that got me this job. None of the following were factors.

Actually, the single-source XML thing has been the biggest factor.

Have the calls been specific?

Have Standards, SDLC's, Capability Maturity Model (SEI-CMM), IEEE been prominent. That is, are these factors discussed in the 'recruiting process'?

Have the requests specified that membership in IEEE, STC, or other organizations been implied?

Any mention in 'management'/'leadership'/'collaboration', and the like been a factor?

Has telecommuting been a consideration, relative to other factors
