Well, I honestly see more of a concern for web designers and graphic
designers than technical writers.

It depends on the nature of your work. Lots of people include web design and graphic design as part of their duties, especially
long tech-writers. I've usually done so myself.

More importantly, RoboHelp is a frequently used tool for tech-writers. Given Adobe's policy towards FrameMaker, it's probably reasonable to have a moment or two of concern if RoboHelp is part of your tool box.

I don't see the proprietary nature of Flash to be a monumental issue
plaguing the technical writing community.

Actually, it should be -- not so much Flash itself, but the proprietary nature of most of the tools and formats that tech-writers depend on. If
proprietary software wasn't so widely used, then people would be less affected by corporate whims, and the announcements of mergers would cause less concern.

Unfortunately, too many people are still unaware of alternatives.
