I do what many of you do all day, which is to say that I sit reading things
and writing things -- and then I go sit in meetings listening to things. But
now that I'm over 50 it's becoming more important to do those things
correctly. (Well, it was important when I was younger, but I didn't take it
seriously enough.)
The best and most current info that I have is that there is no best position
in which to sit for extended periods -- in other words, for the health of
your lumbar spine, the best thing that you can do is to vary your seated
posture and to get up and move around.
Meanwhile, for best care of the upper back, neck, arms, etc., if you spend
any amount of time in typing/mousing position, your elbows and forearms
should be supported.
Well hokay. So it looks like the best things to sit on are a kneeling chair
or a ball (which demands constant stabilization action by the supporting
muscles), but the kneeling chair or ball must have height-adjustable arms.
Now that's a combination I haven't seen in stores nor in recent Googling.
Anybody know a source?
Budget is a consideration, but I'll worry about that once I've actually got
the correct beast in my sights.
Kevin
