TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
We have about 35 employees, a dozen engineers/support staff, a dozen
programmers, and yours truly for a writer/editor/webmaster/whatever. I
guesstimate that if/when we reach 80 there should be a total of 3
writers/editors. So if they're making you do the job of 3 or more, I'd
discuss bringing in two more TW's. If they cannot afford a "real" one,
try getting a couple college or grad school interns. If you do that,
make sure your company is flexible enough to work around their classes
and tests.

I have an urgent request... I need to see how this software company of
approx. 80 employees compares with similar sized software companies,
with respect to techwriters.
Apparently, this company wants all that I can give them, by September,
while squeezing it into another full time job. I'm a bit in shock
here, I thought they realized this was a full-time effort.
So, if anybody works in a software company that comes close in size,
could you let me know how many developers per how many techwriters?
If I should be asking other questions too, please let me know.
