Or even if the job posting is legit, the very fact that it's out there
where millions of people will see it means that millions of people will
apply, which makes the odds pretty lousy. Better to try and ferret out
jobs that not many people know about, through networking or whatever
other means you have at your disposal.

Which makes another good point: don't depend on job postings to tell you
about jobs that are available. I used my network to do searching; I
found out about the job I'm in from a recruiter.

the position is not open. they just like to fish for candidate resumes
in case the person currently in the position leaves or screws up.
