Your comment is right on.

I  had only put a cross reference to a "heading title".  Your example is what 
 I will do from now on.

I have seen numerous references in some document  that said "See page n.", 
:See the figure on the next page", "This  table".

My thought on your original information was 'just the page  number'.  Forgive 
me for my "assumption".

Hoist me on my own  petard.
