Right on, David.
Just do what needs to be done. That's why you're there. No need to get prior approval for every decision, and no need for a gory-details post-mortem. Let the results speak for themselves.
I'm thinking of chocolate-chip cookies, so try this on for size. They don't want to bake the cookies themselves, nor do they want to help you. They don't care what the ingredients are, how you put them together, or why you prefer one brand of chocolate morsel over the other. And really, you don't want them to interfere in your kitchen. But when they smell the yummy, they'll be happy. In the end, all you want is for them to gobble it up, and congratulate themselves for hiring such a great baker.
