"Go" to work. Have a particular place where you do all your
work, and GO there. Make sure everyone knows you are working
and not to be disturbed. Log your hours to a reasonable degree
of care.

Do status reports, at least weekly or even daily if need be.
Someone may have wandered by your empty office at the plant
with some crucial info, and on not seeing you just dropped
it on your chair. Ya gotta stay ahead of things like that;
keep them informed, and keep yourself informed.

Use the phone in addition to e-mail.

Thank the people who help you in doing a good job. Push
the others gently aside. Take advantage of being able to
yell and scream about various PHBs without getting fired.
