And it's been a long time since I've seen a matchbook
with the striking surface on the same side of the book
as the matches themselves. What I've seen are ones with
the striking surface placed on the outside back of the
opening flap. This prevents stray sparks from hitting
the open book and igniting the remaining matches.

This of course, makes the intructions even more open
to satire if they had included alternate steps to
include usage where the striking surface is located
on the back.
