siliconwriter -at- comcast -dot- net asked, "Should I go ahead and send the updated, proper document to the customer? Would it be confusing for them to receive two documents that said essentially the same thing? Should I wait until there is an upgrade?"

I've run into this type of situation before. In my case, it was not because somone was trying to bypass me, but that they generally think they are helping the customers.

I would explain to both parties--in a PC manner and without trying to make anyone lose face--that documentaiton goes through you. That the original document was a "draft" to give the customer an idea and that what you have now is the "final" version which is more thorough and user-friendly.

You may need to shift around the terminology and throw in some ingratiating buzzwords, but you get the idea.

And, yes, I hate it when this happens.

Good luck!
