I disagree with the management comment. That's a whole different can
of worms. ;-)

Fair enough. I'd say this is required to APPLY for certification in something.

And what does a FTE do in this case? Take vacation time?

I'm honestly surprised more people don't do this. I constantly learn
new things. I'd go insane from rote process-induced boredom
otherwise!!!
