Hi Wallace:
Easy: go to www.irfanview.com or tucows.com and downlod and
install the Free IfFanView and plugins. It's the best free
graphics viewer program and very easy to use.
Ctrl+Shift+PrintScrn will put the entire screen on the
clipboard, paste it into Irfanview with Ctrl+V, use your mouse
to draw a square around the part of the screen you want, hit
Ctrl+Y to crop to your selection and save in the format of your
choice. If your selection must be accurate within one pixel,
just press the plus sign key to blow up the image as much as
900%. You can even crop to a single pixel with ease. You can
have your saved image in under 20 seconds.(I just timed it!)
Or if you want easier, once you have cropped the screen capture
down to the toolbar or other image, copy it to the clipboard
with Ctrl+C and paste into Word or Illustrator or whatever.(even
faster)
Remember that when you do a screen grab, it is in 72 pixels per
inch. This is very low res and won't look good when printed. So
to make a decent print out of a Word toolbar, the easiest way is
to:
Do the above to get the cropped toolbar into Irfanview. Then
copy the image from Irfanview and paste into a blank Word doc.
Set the document zoom to 500%. Word actually does a pretty good
job of automatically dithering the image as it scales up. Then
do another screen grab with Ctrl+Shift+PrintScrn at 500%. Paste
it into Irfanview and crop down to what you need and save the
image as a jpg and insert into Word. It now prints much better
and you didn't have to buy any software.

There are other ways to do this and get even better results. If
you have money for more software and time to use it and want
details, let me know.
Rick

How does one capture the image of a Word screen for an in-house
manual?
I want to reproduce a couple toolbars on a page. I have seen
other documents where this is done, and I wonder if anyone has
any suggestions. Gracias.

Wallace
