Proposal writers: Comments or suggestions about proposal writing courses, especially ICI, The Grant Institute
Subject:Proposal writers: Comments or suggestions about proposal writing courses, especially ICI, The Grant Institute From:Kathleen MacDowell <kathleen -dot- eamd -at- gmail -dot- com> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- techwr-l -dot- com> Date:Tue, 16 Aug 2005 16:42:40 -0500
Hi All,
I recently saw an ad for Grants 101, which is a professional grant
proposal writing workshop. It costs a fair amount (~$600) and the
site advertising it doesn't specify how long the workshop is. So
before investing my money on calling them, I thought I'd see what any
of you who've worked in proposal writing might suggest about my taking
such a course and paying for it myself.
I'd appreciate opinions about the following, or anything else in a
similar vein (e.g., your own experience with workshops)
Is there a standardarized set of procedures that can be taught that
apply to both profit and non-profit organizations? I imagine I will be
working at a for-profit org.
How much of the proposal process is organization specific (in your experience)?
Do you think that my attendance at a workshop would be a useful
addition to my tech writing experience if an employer wanted a
proposal writer (My only proposal experience was as a student
researcher)?
Assuming that the workshop is well run, do you think I would/could
learn as much from such a workshop as I could get from several books
at the library?
TIA
Kathleen
