I did that and it works, great. Except that if there is a full-stop in the
email address, eg juliet -dot- adlington -at- reuters -dot- com, it doesn't include the
first word. So, the email address inserted in the email application is
"adlington -at- reuters -dot- com". Any ideas?

Use Special-->Hypertext-->Go to URL
In the Syntax field, specify the name of the URL(you have an example there
for your reference).
