To verify whether the differences exist in the PDF files, rather than in the monitor display, use Acrobat's (not Reader's) compare documents feature.

If there are differences between the PDFs, the causes could be these differences on the computers:

* One is using Adobe Type Manager (ATM) and one isn't. Some fonts render slightly differently with and without ATM.

* The versions of the font differ; compare size and date of the font files.

* One machine is set to use fonts from the computer, while the other is set to use printer-resident fonts; they can differ.

Does anyone have an idea what causes the following?

Scenario:
Two writers use FrameMaker to create PDF files
(FrameMaker>Distiller>PDF).
They build the same file on their respective machines.
When comparing the resulting PDFs, the fonts appear different.
One of the PDFs has thinner characters that are harder to read.
But when the thin PDF is magnified to 150%, the characters look like
the correct font.
