FOSS is short for FLOSS. Here is the longer wikipedia article:

On a related note, one of the earliest "free software" companies was Cygnus Support, which offered commercial support contracts for free software (and provided a lot of r&d which they assigned directly to the Free Software Foundation). Red Hat operates under a similar business model for Linux, and in fact Red Hat bought Cygnus in 1999.

If such an organization offered support for GIMP, OpenOffice, Dia, etc. would it make a difference in the corporate community? My feeling is, probably not, at least not at first.
