I have been asked by my boss to research purchasing a HATT. We were
seriously considering RoboHelp Office Pro for .NET, but that may be
beyond our budget and the recent info. about Macromedia's/Adobe's plans
for RoboHelp going forward have made me think twice about that tool.
Does anyone have any suggestions for alternative/comparable HATTs
that might be less expensive?
The HATT would have to be able to produce context-sensitive help for
Web-based applications (run over an the company's intranet) with .aspx
extensions.
We'd also like it to have these features:
* TOC generation
* Glossary generation
* Index generation
* Search functionality
* Printed documentation generation (Word and/or PDF)
The end-users and the help author have Internet Explorer 6.0 and
Windows XP.
The developers of our Web-based apps use Microsoft Visual
Studio .NET 2003.
The host servers:
* Are Microsoft IIS
* Have Microsoft SQL Server 7.0/2000
There would be just one author for the foreseeable future--me. I am
proficient in Word, FrontPage and Dreamweaver. I am very familiar with
HTML and have a rudimentary knowledge of CSS.
I worked in RoboHelp a long time ago. I have not worked in another HATT. I
am a beginner as far as HATTs go, so I would want to sign up for the
vendor's "gold"-level support program.
>From what I've read online, Doc-to-Help, WebWorks for Word, Document!X,
and Help & manual seem like possible alternatives.
