Brian Gordon wonders: <<What are the first signs of RSI?>>

Pain and/or numbness. Whether you're actually suffering from carpal tunnel or something else entirely is besides the point. You need to go to a professional to find out what the actual cause is--your family doctor may not be qualified to tell you, but should be able to refer you to someone who can make the right differential diagnosis.

<<Any other thoughts or suggestions?>>

Have a look at my techwr-l article on RSI for a starting point in your search: Hart, G.J. 2004. Avoiding repetitive-stress injuries: a guide for the technical communicator. http://techwr-l.com/techwhirl/magazine/usersadvocate/rsi.html

Let me emphasize again that this is just a starting point. There's some good stuff there in my not particularly humble opinion, and some doctors reviewed it to ensure that the advice was basically sound, but if you're hurting, you need to go beyond that information and find a professional who can help. Best of luck!
