I used the Zoom search engine on a recent site as well. See www.bcwwa.org
top left. It was easy to set up and I just handed the config and custom
files over to the webmaster when I was done at my end. Oh, and the trail
version was great for testing purposes and getting final approval on the
search function from the client.
Zoom is desktop-based but can be set to run and upload automatically. It
also comes with stats.

Have you checked out the Zoom search engine from Wrensoft
(http://www.wrensoft.com/)? I used it at my last position and it has
routines for both websites and CD/DVDs. They have a free version that
is okay, but spend the $50 or so to get the professional version. When
I had a problem setting the search up for a Marketing CD we were making,
they responded almost immediately, found the coding problem and got us
running before the day was out. Best of all, you didn't have to put the
Google logo, nor any of the free ads on your site. (I hate giving away
free advertising.) You can also download the PDF manual to check it out
first.
