Tony Markos claimed: TW is really not about writing.
Hmm, if that is the case, then why are technical writing college
degrees, and I suppose certificate programs loaded with WRITING
INTENSIVE courses? For my BS, there was an entire block devoted
specifically to WRITING INTENSIVE courses.
Granted, there were also areas for oral communication, theory,
research, professional practice, and so on and so forth. But even in
those areas, I seem to remember having to write term papers where part
of the grade was how they were written.
Technical writing is really not about writing? Naw, I don't buy that.
As for a book recommendation, well I am slightly (okay very)
irreverent and I tend to look at things from a different angle than
your average bear. So, I say John Locke's "The De-voicing of
Society:Why We Don't talk to each other Anymore" is an excellent book
on rhetoric, which is of course boys and girls the art of
communication. Now that could be written, oral, or visual... wait did
I say written?
