I disagree with the above; I think it is a Western
intellectual concept/conceit, in that it is partly
true but ignores equally valid non-written/spoken
forms of communication.

My wife is from South America and spoke little
English. I am from Canada and spoke less Spanish. Yet,
when we met in Colombia, we 'knew' instantly that
there was a deep connection.

This is an example of a different type of very deep
communication without language. Just as there are
different types of intelligence, there are multiple
ways to communicate, some of which are superior to
language for certain purposes.

An occupational hazard for any specialty is the risk
of seeing the world through one's own training and
experience. "To a hammer, everything looks like a
nail."
