When I was working on my Biomechanics degree, I had
always been thinking ahead to complete all of my
coursework my doctorate so I could focus completely on
research. One area was statistics and the other
technical writing. As time passed, I realized that I
no longer wanted to be a professor and researcher if
it meant just picking up on a whim and relocating
anywhere in the country. Since I had taken so many
writing courses, I went to the head of the STC program
and asked if getting a master degree would be a
possibility. I had taken most of the courses offered
and he said "You've already bought it so let's find a
project to complete the degree." At the time, Adobe
Acrobat and other document viewers (Envoy, Common
Ground) were just coming into the market. The
Extension Service wanted to place their publications
online. I researched the options and held a pilot
study and voila?a master?s degree is born!
