"Web" should only be treated as a proper noun (e.g. capitalized when not
the first word in a sentence) when it refers specifically to the World Wide
Web. When you're talking about something that is web-based, this usually
means that part of the application resides on a web server and is accessed
from the client side using a web browser. But the web that is involved
need not be the WWW web--it is at least as likely to be an intranet
(private) web.

What is everyone using as far as capitalization of "web" ? My manual of style says "always
capitalize when used alone". So, what about "web-based"?
