Applying a template to a document in Word 2003?

Kevin Amery wondered: <<How do you tell Word to use a different 
template for an existing document? Specifically, I have a document that 
uses Normal.dot. I want to use a different .dot file, but for the life 
of me I can't find how to get Word to do it. Apparently in older 
versions you could do this by going to File>Template and changing it 
there... But MS in their infinite wisdom have taken that menu item away 
in 2003.>>

Not using Word 2003, but I don't believe this particular feature has 
changed: template management wsa never found under the File menu, other 
than when you created a new document; then, you could choose from among 
the available templates as the basis for your new manuscript.

Try this instead: Tools-->Templates and add-ins. From that dialog, you 
can click the "Attach" button to "attach" (link, really) the template 
of your choice. Note that if you've already done most of your 
formatting using Normal.dot, you'll have to reapply any styles that 
differ in formatting, since styles don't automatically update, 
particularly if you've manually overridden the formatting.
