I'm interested in cutting down the number of pages in our printed
manuals in favor of electronic delivery (PDF, HTML, c-s Help systems,
etc.). I wanted to get a feel from people who have done this as to
what the customer reaction was.

We went from shipping a set of 6 nicely printed perfect
bound manuals to a set of 28 hyperlinked PDFs with search
facilities etc. a couple of years ago and the reaction
was pretty good (i.e., no customers complained and a couple
even said they liked them!). To be honest I'd expected
the odd complaint but we didn't get any.

We saved a lot of money not only on printing costs but
also on shipping, and other advantages are that I get another
couple of weeks each release to finish the manuals, and
also we can put updates on the web site whenever necessary.

Our customers are all software developers so I guess as a
group pretty used to reading on-line help / docs, so ymmv.

cheers,
Chris.
