For perverse reasons of my own, one of the newsgroups I stay subscribed to, even though techwr-l mail has not suffered any major glitches in months, is the Usenet mirror at bit.listserv.techwr-l.

Because Google Groups has started to gain some traction among newcomers who are unfamiliar with the ways of listservs, I've noticed an increasing number of posts in the bit.l newsgroup that are sent there directly by non-subscribers in the hopes that we'll all take note. Of course we don't take note because their posts don't show up on the list.

Sometimes these are random questions about tech writing, and if the writer really wants the answer they can follow the instructions in the footer of every list post and subscribe to the list. Other posts are job listings that would not be permitted on the list except as paid ads.

So, for those of you who are looking for work and who can figure out how to subscribe to the mirror group, it's something you might consider doing.

Dick
