I have burned CDs that are now coasters... the decay is real. The
better quality CD and burner, the longer the lifespan. So don't use
those bargain deal CDs for storing your finanical records long-term.
Mix music CDs? Sure. But nothing valuable.

Paper or distributed electronic storage (several backed-up hard drives
and media types) is the best way to go.
