As someone who doesn't document much software but has installed
a lot of it, the best way you could "help" me would be to automate
the entire process with an installer that walks me through all the options,
helps me determine which ones I need at appropriate stages of the
installation and which, when rerun after installation, will inventory what
I have installed, compare logs to recorded use cases and recommend
additions or deletions. The only installation instructions I should need
are a blurb on the CD that says, "Insert this CD into your computer."
Any of the other stuff should be accessible from the menu that comes
up when I insert the CD.

Hi all,

We are reviewing the documents we include to help deploy a software product. Ignoring such post-installation aids as user manuals, reference guides, bug trackers, training, and support, I wish to focus on:

- release notes / readme
- installation guide (could be broken in two: quick start + admin & config. guide)
- anything else e.g. install wizards, CD blurbs, download instructions, etc.
