Michele Davis wrote while extolling the virtues of Photoshop:
Frankly I think it's lame to take screen grabs and use those other programs for it. I think every writer of documentation should know all the ins and outs of Photoshop.

Why is using SnagIt, or even Paint, "lame" for a screen shot? The last time I checked, either of those two programs can catch every pixel with more than enough color depth for most documentation purposes.

I can think of a couple cases where Photoshop may offer additional benefits:
- Gradients
- Photographs
- Web-based training

All of those would benefit from extra color depth that you won't get in Paint, but SnagIt handles them quite adequately. I'm not sure why continuous tone would add any valuable for most documentation projects. SnagIt gets my vote for speed and for the money.
