Yep, AZ unemployment totally sucks. You have to jump thru all sorts of
hoops, wait forever, then get a pittance. The MAX you can get, IF you've
qualified for the correct # of quarters AND been paid well during that
time (what you get in unemployment is directly related to what you were
making when you WERE working), is $200 a week (up a whopping $15 from
the $185 it was 4-5 yrs ago). AND! This is taxable income, so you
don't see the whole $200 anyway!

Now, if I'm TOTALLY unemployed, have a house payment, utilities, food
and gasoline (!), how is that gonna do much?! Where's all the
employer-paid unemployment $ going?!

Sorry - this just hit a nerve.

for unemployment--immediately.

Depends on the state. In AZ, it wasn't worth one's while to waste the
gas, then jump through their myriad of hoops only to learn they'd send
me about $25 a week. I told them not to bother and left.

In Michigan, on the other hand, apparently several of my wife's
relatives do quite nicely living off of their unemployment checks, thank
you.
