Hi Carol,
As Fred Ridder said earlier, you need to use different numbering labels
for different numbering sequences. From what you described, I'd be
willing to bet that your step and figure numbering are tied to the same
label or to none at all.
There's something else you can do to make your life a little easier with
numbering. You can make step numbering automatically restart at 1 for
each procedure, eliminating the need for a Number-Restart tag. If there
is a particular paragraph type that always comes between your procedures
(I'm assuming you have headings or introductory text of some form to
indicate when a new one starts), you can set one or more of those
paragraph tags to reset step numbers automatically. Then you never need
to check your procedures to make sure that the numbers start at 1 and
don't restart in the middle.
I would suggest that you try numbering similar to this (this is what
would show under Autonumber Format on the Numbering tab of the paragraph
designer):
Step numbering:
S:<n+> -- This increments numbers for your steps.
Procedure intro heading ("To do blah-blah-blah:") or body text:
S: -- This restarts the next occurrence of the Numbering
tag
without any numbering showing for this heading
or body text paragraph.
Figure caption:
F:Figure <n+> -- This numbers your figure captions consecutively
without affecting step numbers.
If that doesn't make sense, e-mail me off-list, and I can try to walk
you through it.
Have a great day!
Donna
