No. You can train people who are already writers how to do technical
writing (if they have an aptitude for and interest in the technology).
But it is difficult and expensive to train non-writers to write
proficiently. It is far more cost-effective to have them collate,
organize, and format information, fact-check, and assemble illustrative
material and to hire an editor to get the words right.
Well, you're disagreeing with a point I didn't make. ;-) The whole
point of having style guides is to have writers actually writing in
the same direction, so to speak. If you train your writers in the way
they *need* to write, and maketh it so in your stone tablet style
guide, then you shouldn't have too much cleanup in the end. And if you
do, well, there's a performance management track to consider. ;-)
