A few years ago someone sent an email to our "everyone" list about
a flyer for a "financial planning for women" seminar that had been
posted on a public bulletin board. This person was upset because
women were being treated "special". Anyway, since this person
posted publicly, I responded publicly.

I had someone approach me later, who complimented me on the
well-written response. She then asked, "have you ever thought
about being a writer for a living?".

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry ;)

And back to the original question, $40K for an entry or mid level
tech writing position, in many areas of the country, would not be too
bad. I accepted my original position here in Utah at substantially
less.
