Jessica, I have a site devoted to XyWrite. I've never heard of Sladek's

Wow, this takes me right back! Xywrite was the first
PC word processing program I ever used and I loved it
until the bitter end, when I switched companies and
wasn't allowed to use it any more.

I worked for the Israeli company Scitex, which made pre-press
computer graphic equipment (whose technology is now duplicated
by a $35 scanner... but I digress), in the mid 1980s. We once
had a visitor from the US who had worked for ATEX, the
typesetting system that XyWrite is based on. I forget what
I mentioned I wished the program could do but he said,
"It should do that. ATEX could." Then he sat down at my
keyboard, used the ATEX key combination and sure enough,
it worked! It wasn't documented anywhere or named as a
feature :->
