For nerds, who are the only audience who
should care:

  On Linux, a service is added to each of the /etc/init.d/rc[0-6].d
  directories.

For mundanes, who have no business poking
around in /etc unless they are on the way
to nerdishkeit:

  Spell out each directory with full pathname,
  and perhaps even call them "folders" instead.
