Hi Laura,
I worked with Hyperhelp in the past. I'm not sure if it is still a current product. When I used it several years ago I think that they were phasing it out. I believe that it cost way more than robohelp currently does.
The *.rtf files were probably generated using RoboHelp to create Winhelp. If I remember correctly, the *.rtf and the rest of the project files were FTP'ed to the Unix server where they were compiled with the HyperHelp WinHelp engine. Rather convoluted but it worked. Robohelp was used to maintain the source only.
Currently, we produce context sensitive JavaHelp that runs on the Unix servers. If in fact these *.rtf files were produced using RoboHelp (WinHelp) then RoboHelp X5 (or even earlier versions) should be able to read (import) the entire project. You could then set your target for JavaHelp recompile and FTP to your Unix server.
FWIW - Sun does not charge for the JavaHelp engine.

Hi All,

I am working as a Technical writer for a product based
company. I have to update an Online Help which is in
*.hlp format. This is for a UNIX platform. These help
files have not been updated in ages and the source
files are in *.rtf formats.

I am looking at tools available to generate a .hlp
format of online help for a UNIX platform. I have
heard about Hyperhelp, just wanted to know if there is
any other option available other than Hyperhelp.

Alternatively, I am also exploring the possibility of
generating a *.hlp help file in Windows and then make
it possible to open and view it from a UNIX platform?
I do not have the option of changing the help file
format :-(

Can anyone suggest tools or ways to generate a *.hlp
format on online help for a UNIX platform?

Thanks in advance and looking forward for some good
suggestions,

Laura Chris
