Well, as the proverb goes, "It is better to have posted something embarrassing, than never to have posted at all". It's a risk I'm prepared to take. Still, maybe I'm a voice in the wilderness shooting monkeys in a barrel.

Could be a poll question on the list's page? Or it could be a long and pointless thread which lurches from anecdote to opinion before finally dying without conclusion.

This arrangement leads to FREQUENT embarrassment for people who intended to write privately to the OP.

The setup on techwr-l, where Reply All is the way to post to the list, is far preferable IMO.
