Maybe I'm an anomaly, but I've written about everything from consumer
electronics to programming tools, and people were happy with what I did
at both ends of the technical spectrum.

They are however, very different kinds of writing. With a non-technical
audience you have to be careful not to assume too much. People might
not know fairly basic technical stuff. With a technical audience you
have to be careful not to explain too much. They don't need concepts,
they just need the techy bits about your particular product.
