Subject:How do you test/try to break a Word template? From:Geoff Hart <ghart -at- videotron -dot- ca> To:TECHWR-L <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- techwr-l -dot- com>, Edgar D' Souza <edgar -dot- b -dot- dsouza -at- gmail -dot- com> Date:Wed, 16 Aug 2006 09:10:42 -0400
Edgar D' Souza wondered: <<Recently, a client told us that a Word
(2000) template we had created from them passed their testing ("we
tried to break it and couldn't - it's good"). Testing software is
something I understand. Testing a template - I'm totally in the dark
about that!>>
Testing is testing: What is it supposed to do? Does it do it? Can I
try accomplishing each of the "supposed to do" items in a different
way that will produce unexpected results? What if I try doing
something seemingly logical that the designers didn't plan for?
There's no way to do this rigorously unless you've studied "formal
methods", and even then, I'm not confident you can make something
truly foolproof. As the saying goes, "nature always evolves a more
powerful fool". <g>
