One has to be careful of this trap with eLearning. A skilled instructional
designer/eLearning professional can turn out a good course that meets all
of the specs and learning goals independent of tool choice.
In some cases Flash may be the easiest tool to develop and deliver in and
in other cases it may not.

That being said, learn Flash, no skill gained is wasted time.

I output a lot of content to Flash, and that is not to say that I do a lot
of Flash development. Packages like Macromedia Captivate are incredibly
useful for creating quick, easily delivered software sims.

However when I need to create a full learning package, I'll choose
Macromedia Authorware, not only because it is a true eLearning authoring
tool (not a vector-based animator adapted to the task), but because it is
far simpler to create a learning package in Authorware.

Now if only they'd give us Flash output from Authorware...
