On the sdl.com website, I've been reading about AuthorAssistant 2006,
which is supposed to allow writers to automatically tap into a
Translation Memory so they can create new text that matches already
written/translated text.

Has anyone on this list used AuthorAssistant? Can you describe your
experience?
I'm trying to find out how long this tool has been around. I cannot find
that info on the sdl website.
