Well, as I said, I'm not looking at this issue from a help author's
viewpoint (my last help project was over three years ago), but
from that of someone whose most likely issue with Vista is
going to be whether or not to upgrade my own systems to it.
The last help project I did was delivered as a .chm system, and
if I were to do another I would definitely deliver it in whatever
form would work on the greatest possible number of users'
systems. But I'm not about to go back and decompile the .hlp
files for every app I use and regenerate them in another format
just so I can go on working.

Yabbut, the purpose of documentation is to support the user. If our users
are still using Windows 98, great! We can go ahead and keep on using the
tools we're using and producing the help we're producing and no big deal.
But,if the user base chooses to upgrade, we are obliged to make best effort
to support that decision. And that responsibility mushrooms. Look at it this
way...
