The difference with OpenOffice Writer is that it will
convert the files directly from HTML to PDF. The
advantage would be in using one program to do the
whole process.

There might be advantages in using XML, but only if
you were going to do something special with the files
in that format. Using the simplest and least expensive
method probably is the best way to go, especially if
this is a low priority project.
