Maybe they want the opportunity to decide from a position of being employed?

Also, as we know, with all but the most intractable of prejudices, once you
get to know a person and see that they're honest, effective, and a pleasure
to work with, you'll likely put aside the prejudice in the specific case and
perhaps reconsider it for the general case. We've all known older people who
have enough energy to run youngsters into the ground (or who have enough
tricks and experience to make it look that way), so it's a matter of getting
the foot in the door.

I daresay that most people on this list are confident that they can carry
their weight and interact professionally once they get hired - it's the
initial, unfair barrier that's the problem.

I don't care if they call me Grandpa, as long as they answer my questions
when I ask them, and give credit where/when it's due. Oh, and a paycheck is
nice, too.

I kinda worry about the day coming that we'll want to downplay the century
in which we were born...
