Dunno. Could be that a bunch of stupid managers have passed over your
resume because they're looking for the one person in 300 million who can
do exactly what they want. They are never going to find this person, and
meanwhile they are not getting any work done.

Small comfort to you, but just remember: you didn't want to work at any
of those places anyway.

The light bulb is starting to go on here: even if I *love* my current
position, I should update my resume and keep looking for work. That
increases the chance that I'll have a position waiting if I ever need
one. This is *not* the work model we want to hear, but I think it fits.
I think we'll have to wait a long time before the market is so good that
the people in the middle (and I count myself as one of them) can feel
confident in getting something.

We either have to push ourselves beyond our perceived limits, or face
scrabbling over a smaller pool of positions with everyone else.
